Each of my pieces is a quiet conversation with the homeland I carry in my heart. Always present. Always alive.
Nataliia Berezniak
My name is Nataliia Berezniak — an artist from Ukraine who found her voice through painting in Munich.
My path to art was indirect, yet deeply conscious. After graduating from art school in Pryluky and earning a master’s degree from the National Aviation University in Kyiv, I chose the profession of graphic designer. For fifteen years, I ran Creative Design Studio NB in Odesa, creating visual solutions for companies in Ukraine, Europe, and Malaysia, teaching computer graphics at Odessa Polytechnic University. But the brush always waited for me.
In 2022, the war changed everything. Finding myself in Munich, I finally allowed myself what I had dreamed of for years — to dedicate myself completely to painting. What was once an occasional passion became my language, my way of speaking about things impossible to express in words.
My art is a dialogue between two worlds. I paint Bavarian landscapes in oil, using classical techniques, but every street, every building, every architectural detail whispers memories of Ukraine to me. In the series “Golden Threads of Memory. Bavaria Through Ukrainian Eyes,” I use gold leaf — not as decoration, but as a symbol of light, sacredness, and the invisible bond with the home that is always with me.
The gold in my works is what doesn’t disappear, what remains across distance and time. It is memory that illuminates the present.
Today, I am a member of the artists’ associations of Ottobrunn and Munich, conduct painting workshops, and participate in group exhibitions in Germany and the Czech Republic. My works are not just paintings. They are bridges between cultures, between past and present, between what I have lost and what I have found.
