This painting is part of my “Golden Series: Bavaria through the Eyes of a Ukrainian Woman,” where I blend real cityscapes with mystical, imaginary elements that do not exist in reality. Each work in the series contains riddles and symbols, inviting the viewer to explore the space between reality and dream.
This particular piece holds a special place in my heart. After being forced to leave Ukraine due to the war, I searched for a sense of home in my new city—Munich. The Bavaria statue, towering over the city, reminded me of Kyiv’s Motherland Monument, a symbol of strength and resilience. That is why, in the reflection on the water, you see not Bavaria, but the Motherland Monument—a mystical bridge between two homelands, two identities.
The gold leaf highlights the light of hope, the value of memories, and inner strength, while the mystical details invite the viewer to personal interpretation. This series is my way of speaking about loss, the search for a new home, and faith in the future through art.
